Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, the latest budget offerings from the Chinese technology start-up will go on sale on Flipkart and Mi.com today. Xiaomi’s sale starts at 12 pm and the company has not opted for a flash sale model on these phones, although if previous sales are an indicator stocks run out pretty fast. The lack of a flash sale means you don’t have to register beforehand to buy these smartphones, however stocks will be limited.
Both Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime are Made in India phones, says Xiaomi and all units have been manufactured in the country. Xiaomi’s first sale of Redmi 3S Prime, which is the more expensive of the two phones, saw over 90,000 units of the device get sold out in just eight minutes, according to the company.
Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime costs Rs 8,999, while Redmi 3S comes at Rs 6,999. The difference between Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime: Redmi 3S has 2GB RAM+16GB storage and no fingerprint scanner, while the Redmi 3S Prime has a fingerprint scanner, 3GB RAM and 32GB GB storage. In both phones the storage is expandable via microSD card with 128GB capacity supported.
The Redmi 3S series is a smaller version of the more Redmi Note 3. Xiaomi Redmi 3S phones have a similar metal uni-body design as the Note 3, although both phones have a smaller 5-inch HD display, and not the bigger 5.5-inch full HD display on the bigger phone. Redmi 3S series runs 1.4Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor, has a 13 MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.
But more than specifications, the Redmi 3S series stands out for the 4,100 mAh battery, which can easily last two days. In our own review of the Redmi 3S Prime, we found the phone lasted two days, even with heavy usage, which included gaming, typing articles, browsing the web, etc and that is impressive for a phone priced at Rs 8,999.
The Redmi 3S series will comes in gold, silver and grey colour variants. Both phones are 4G VoLTE ready in India and will support Band 5, which will be crucial for Reliance Jio users in the future.
