Xiaomi launches ‘offline only’ Redmi 3S+ in India at Rs 9,499

Chinese handset maker Xiaomi today launched its new smartphone ‘Redmi 3S+’, its first offline exclusive handset in the country.
“Redmi 3S+ marks a significant milestone in the history of Mi India towards building a stronger offline retail presence. Redmi 3S+ will retail across more than 7,500 retailers beginning October 1,” Xiaomi India said in a statement.
It will also be available across key large format retailers like Poorvika, Sangeetha, BIG C, and LOT Mobiles via its distributors — Redington, Innocomm and Just Buy Live, it added.
Xiaomi had entered the Indian market in 2014 in partnership with e-commerce major Flipkart.
After being exclusive to the Bengaluru-based firm’s platform for some time, the company started selling its smartphones on other e-commerce sites such as Snapdeal and Amazon as well from April last year.
In August last year, the company ventured into brick and mortar stores by partnering with retail chain The Mobile Store and private telecom operator Bharti Airtel. It has also partnered distributors like Redington.
Xiaomi gets about 10 percent of its sales from brick-and- mortar stores, where it sells a number of models including Redmi 2, Mi4, Redmi Note 3, Mi5 and Mi Max.
The company has earlier said it expects 20-30 per cent of its sales to come from brick-and-mortar stores over the next few years.
The 4G VoLTE-enabled Redmi 3S+ comes equipped with 5-inch display, 1.4GHz octa-core processor, 2GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, 13MP rear and 5MP front camera and 4,100 mAh battery.
