A nightclub fight that spilled out onto the Granville Street strip overnight led to the hospitalization of a young woman. A vicious fight broke out between two women inside the Caprice nightclub around 2 a.m. but quickly ended up on the sidewalk outside, according to witnesses. People who watched the violence said one of the women collapsed on the ground and was unconscious as the other woman punched and kicked her.
“She should not have thrown those punches. She was already unconscious – she wasn’t going to do anything,” said Theoron Nesbitt.
Garrison Johnson said he knelt by the woman’s side but was told by a bouncer to leave her alone.
He estimated the woman was knocked out for five minutes.
She was rushed to hospital in critical condition, according to BC Ambulance.
An area around the nightclub was taped off overnight and officers were gathering evidence inside and outside the club until around 6 a.m.
Police have not said whether any arrests have been made, and sent a brief statement saying it was continuing to investigate and gather evidence.
“There are no concerns for the safety of the general public at this time,” said Const. Brian Montague.
“The integrity of the investigation is a priority and additional details will be provided as they become available and when they can be shared publicly.
