A 21-year-old woman has been charged with manslaughter in death of a 17-year-old girl at the Big Island Lake Cree Nation, RCMP say. According to RCMP, the teen — identified as Cynder Robinson, from Taber, Alta. — was involved in a physical altercation at house party on July 15. The injured teen, who was with a group of others, was taken to another home on the reserve.
In a previous news release, RCMP said that life saving efforts were attempted on the injured youth, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
RCMP announced Thursday that their investigation led them to Brandy Arnelle Benson, 21, from the Big Island Lake First Nation who was arrested on Wednesday and charged. RCMP also said that the accused and the victim knew each other.
They noted that while the victim was from Alberta, at the time of the incident she was living on the Saskatchewan reserve which is about 100 kilometres northwest of Meadow Lake, Sask.
Benson is set to make her first court appearance at Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Friday.
