Two people are dead after separate crashed across Queensland Friday. A woman died after being hit by an out-of-control car on the Bruce Highway near Mackay on Friday.

About 12.10pm a utility was travelling north on the Bruce Highway at Kuttabul, about 40 kilometres north-west of Mackay, when it struck a caravan travelling in the same direction. The utility then collided with a white sedan..

The sedan’s driver and sole occupant, a 44-year-old woman, died at the scene, while the driver and passenger of the utility were taken to Mackay Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A truck driver also died after rolling down an embankment near Cairns.

About 11.50am the truck was travelling east on the Gulf Development Road near Georgetown, about 400 kilometres south-west of Cairns, when it left the road and crashed down an embankment.

The driver of the truck, a 50-year-old Millstream man, died at the scene. A 33-year-old male passenger was transported to Cairns Hospital with serious injuries. The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
