New Delhi BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said wrong information supplied in affidavits will amount to criminal proceedings.AFTER THE high court decided to scrap the AAP government’s notification appointing 21 MLAs as parliamentary secretaries, the BJP hinted that they will push for criminal proceedings against those MLAs who submitted “false” information in their affidavits.
Stating that the removal of disqualified legislative members is defined in law, New Delhi BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi said wrong information supplied in affidavits will amount to criminal proceedings.
“The Delhi chief secretary told the Election Commission that he has not been provided with any information that showed the MLAs received anything. Thus, he could not prove office of profit. The MLAs lied on their affidavits, which becomes a case of perjury. While getting pecuniary and other benefits comprises office of profit, the post itself by means of influence falls under this category,” claimed Lekhi.
The BJP demanded that those parliamentary secretaries, whose appointments are rendered illegal by the court, should face criminal action for lying on their affidavits. “Even (Labour Minister) Gopal Rai asked for an office for parliamentary secretaries,” claimed Delhi unit president Satish Upadhyay.
Lekhi said she was the first person to call out the illegality of such posts. “I am glad my line has been taken by the court. Sonia Gandhi and Jaya Bachchan too had been involved in a similar controversy,” she said.
