She joined on October 1 at Narot Jaimal Singh police station, which is in close to border in Pathankot and not far from her house in Bhagwal village.
Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had visited Ikagar’s house to express solidarity with the family in January and had announced Rs 5 lakh compensation and a job for one of the family members. The compensation, said Ikagar’s family, was paid in February.
“The delay in taking up a job was from my side. I wanted a different job, like that of a laboratory attendant in school education department, but my qualification was not at par with the job I wanted. I was offered the job of a constable in police by the government. Eventually, I decided to join as constable,” said 28-year-old Harpreet, who joined at a time when evacuation orders were in place in border areas. Even for appointment as constable, Harprit Kaur’s case has been treated as special. She is matriculate while the minimum qualification for a constable’s post is 10+2.Harpreet said she may be given relaxation in training period also. “I am yet to undergo training that is of one year. But I will undergo training for six months at Punjab Police Academy at Phillaur after about three months of my service,” she said.
