Virat Kohli in record books after hit-wicket against England

India would have been hoping for Kohli to score the big runs against England, but this weird dismissal may have put them on the backfoot. The Indian batting lineup rely heavily on Test captain and ODI vice-captain Virat Kohli, in all three formats of the game. The 28-year-old star batsman has been one of the most consistent performers for India over the last few years. After England scored a massive total of 537 in the first innings of the Rajkot Test against England, the home side needed their skipper to score some big runs. Kohli looked set for yet another big score, forging a 41-run partnership with Cheteshwar Pujara. However, the latter’s dismissal seemed to have deterred the India captain. The 28-year old rocked back on to his back foot, to punch the ball on the leg-side. In the process of doing so however, he dislodged the bails, and was adjudged to have been hit-wicket.With this dismissal, Kohli became the second India Test captain to have gotten out hit-wicket, with Lala Amarnath (1949) being the pioneer. Kohli also became the first Indian batsman in 14 years to have been dismissed hit-wicket in Test cricket. The 28-year-old also became the second Indian after ex-wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia to be dismissed hit-wicket in both Tests and ODIs. Interestingly, the only other time Kohli got out hit-wicket, was also against England in Cardiff, five years back.
