The Uttar Pradesh Shiromani Akali Dal today demanded that the case pertaining to the torture and death of  Sikh youths in the Pilibhit jail be reopened and the accused jail officials put on trial. It also sought a relief and rehabilitation package for the victims’ families.Rai Singh, SAD incharge in UP, said the case should not have been withdrawn. He claimed that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, on the request of Akali leaders, had sent a letter to the UP Governor seeking a report on the matter.“I will meet Governor Ram Naik tomorrow,” he said. The SAD planned to contest the 2017 elections from constituencies where Punjabis had a sizeable presence.
