A 37-year-old University of Lethbridge professor has been charged with sexual assault against a female student. Lethbridge police announced the charge Friday, saying the woman came to them on Nov. 19, 2015 to report that she had been sexually assaulted by her professor in December 2014.
Investigators allege the student was sexually assaulted after ending up alone in a room with the professor while attending an off-campus event on Dec. 13, 2014.
Police said the university is aware of the matter and has co-operated with their investigation.
The professor has been suspended while the matter is before the courts. He has been released from custody with conditions, including that he have no contact with his former student. The woman is now 24 years old and no longer a student at the university, police said. The next court date is set for June 9.
