Three members of the protesting ETT TET-Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union climbed atop a water tank at Badal village in Muktsar district in the wee hours today.The union has been protesting for 45 days at Jai Singh Wala village in Bathinda seeking government jobs.The DC and the SSP reached the spot and tried to convince the protesters. However, when the protesters did not budge, the police sealed the village so that no other protester could enter the village. They did not allow water or food to reach the protesters. A net was also fixed around the tank.These protesters are Amarjit Kamboj of Ferozepur, president of the ETT TET-Pass Unemployed Teachers’ Union; Hardeep Singh of Mansa and Himanshu of Bareta.Speaking over the phone, Kamboj said, “We are demanding that the state government should recruit all 6,500 ETT teachers who have cleared TET between 2011 and 2015. The state government should publish an advertisement for 6,500 posts instead of 4,500 posts advertised in November 2015. We are demanding a meeting with the Chief Minister. We will continue our protest from atop the water tank till the CM holds a meeting with our panel.”Gurpreet Singh Gill, SSP, Muktsar, said, “We have fixed the protesters’ meeting with the Chief Minister tomorrow evening, but they are not coming down the tank.”However, in the evening, the protesters came down after Kamboj fell ill.They were taken to the Civil Hospital in Badal for treatment.
