A dress hand-crafted by a University of East London (UEL) student has won a prestigious award at a top fashion event.
Recent UEL fashion graduate Antonia Nae won the Lipsy Red Carpet Award at the London Graduate Fashion Week 2016 for her sweeping black dress featuring silk chiffon and lace applique detailing.
The Custom House resident said the juxtapositioned design, formed of feminine ruffles, tough leather sleeves and small train, was inspired by the texture and beauty of her native Romania.
She said: “I am really excited and truly honoured to have won this award. It’s hard to put the feeling into words.
“It means a lot for me that people got to see my work and, more importantly, enjoyed it.”
The budding designer won her trophy at a gala award show last Wednesday and was one of 1,000 students who took part in the Graduate Fashion Week.
Her dress won the Red Carpet Award for meeting the judges’ criteria in “design, creativity, craftsmanship, commercial viability and red-carpet impact”.
