Two youths were feared drowned in the Bhakra canal when they, along with their friends, went to take a bath in the canal near here today.The victims, Ranbir Singh and Manpreet Singh, were residents of Ghanauli village.Ghanauli police post incharge Gurnam Singh said that he got information at 12.45 pm that two youths have been washed away in the canal near the cremation ground of the village.On reaching the spot, a mobile phone and clothes of both the boys were found from the bank of the canal, he said. Gurnam said that a recording of the incident was found in the mobile phone. But who had recorded it is yet to be ascertained, he said.Ranbir and Manpreet did not know swimming and they were taking a dip in the canal holding the stairs. Ranbir lost his grip and was washed away. When Manpreet tried to save him, he met with the same fate.Passersby tried to save the two youths but to no avail. The police are trying to locate the bodies with the help of divers.
