A child found dead after firefighters put out a small fire in an abandoned building in Englewood has been identified as a 4-year-old boy whose family lived about a mile away, authorities said Wednesday.

It was still unclear how Manuel Aguilar died and how he ended up in the basement of the building in the 1400 block of West Marquette Road, his body wrapped in a smoldering blanket.  He was dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office said an autopsy was inconclusive and the cause of the death was pending further studies.

Three people were taken into custody after Manuel was found by firefighters around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said, but no charges have been announced.

Firefighters were called to the building next door but found no fire, officials said.  They smelled an accelerant in a gangway that led to the abandoned building, the Fire Department said.

They forced their way in and discovered a small fire in the basement, the department said.  Firefighters found the child after putting out the fire.

The child’s home address was listed as in the 6400 block of South Wolcott Avenue, about a mile from the abandoned building
