According to Counter Terrorism Department (CTD), seven to eight terrorists opened fire at the anti-terror squad Mian Town Burj near Ring Road here in Lahore. An exchange of fire took place between the two parties in which four terrorists were killed.
Four other terrorists managed to escape from the scene.
The slain terrorists were identified as Zubair alias Naik Mohammad, Abdul Wahab, Adnan Arshad and Ateeq-ur-Rehman. Their bodies were shifted to a morgue after the encounter.
CTD officials stated the four terrorists were involved in 2008 Moon Market suicide explosion and the attack on Sri Lankan cricket team attack in 2009.
How Sri Lankan team came under attack?
Sri Lankan cricketers and their British assistant coach were wounded when gunmen had attacked their bus as it drove under police escort on March 3, 2009, to a Gaddafi stadium in Lahore.
Then Lahore Police Chief Habib-ur-Rehman had said five police were killed in the attack by unidentified gunmen, who fired AK 47s and rockets and hurled grenades at the bus as it slowed at a traffic circle near the 60,000-seater Gaddafi stadium.
Witnesses saw gunmen with rifles and backpacks running through the streets and firing on people and vehicles around the massive stadium in the morning attack.
Sri Lanka, which had been invited to Pakistan after India pulled out, immediately cancelled the rest of the tour.
Since the attack, Pakistan had gone without test cricket for more than seven years because of security concerns.
