A 16-year-old rape victim today suffered miscarriage when her parents took her to the Deputy Commissioner’s office to complain against the inaction of the local police in the case.The family has alleged that the victim was raped by her cousin repeatedly.The girl, with her mother and brother, met Deputy Commissioner Karnesh Sharma in his office in the afternoon. They alleged that the local police have not arrested accused Harpreet (22), a resident of Kanthala village near Mullanpur Garibdas, even after three weeks of the complaint.They said that Harpreet used to visit their home and he raped the girl repeatedly due to which she got pregnant four months ago. The victim informed her parents about it recently following which they lodged a complaint with the police. On May 5, a case under Section 363, 366, 376/1 and Prevention of Children against Sexual Offence Act was registered.The complainant family was in the Deputy Commissioner’s office when the condition of the victim started deteriorating following which she was taken to the civil hospital. From there, she was taken to Government Multi-specialty Hospital, Chandigarh.Ropar SSP Varinderpaul Singh said that efforts were on to arrest the accused and the police have raided his house twice. He said the police were sending samples for a DNA test.
