A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head while he was trying to pose with his father’s pistol for a selfie in Punjab’s Pathankot city. The incident happened on Saturday morning, leaving the Class IX student critically injured.
The schoolboy, Ramandeep, was home with his sister in the city’s Shiv Nagar locality while their father, a civil contractor was at work. The boy fished out his father’s licenced pistol which was loaded and was posing with it for a selfie when he accidentally pulled the trigger, shooting himself.
“He was trying to take a selfie with the pistol and accidently pushed the trigger. His sister was also there and she raised an alarm,” Ganesh Kumar, a relative said. “We took him to a private hospital but given his serious condition we are taking him to Ludhiana,” he added.
The police have seized the pistol. “We got information that a boy has accidently shot himself, when we came here family told us that he was trying to take selfie with his mobile phone. We are investigating the matter,” said Manoj Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pathankot.
