It looks as though one Vancouver teacher has gone ‘overboard’ after using a pair of suggestive music videos in a high school English class. “I’m On A Boat” by Lonely Island was a comedic hit when it was released back in 2009, but Vancouver teacher Cory Ray Steeves isn’t laughing now.
As a substitute last fall, the teacher played the profanity laced video, along with one called “Big Bad Wolf” to tenth graders as a part of a lesson on satire.
The latter video focuses on people with human heads for genitalia and includes sexual acts; it’s only lyrics are “the big bad wolf.”
While Steeves did give students the chance to opt out, and one student chose to leave the classroom, the teacher regulation branch stepped in anyway.
The poorly judged lesson plan landed Steeves a five day unpaid suspension, along with an official reprimand, and a required course on professional boundaries.
