The Mounties are investigating a tragic set of events at a rancher’s rural property in southern Alberta. RCMP say search and rescue crews were going over the property, 15 km’s southwest of Claresholm, late Thursday night, after the 85-year-old man was reported missing.

It had been learned he was in the habit of using an ATV to check on his livestock, and the man’s 60-year-old son joined in the search.

But, at some point, the man’s son set off on his own — and was then found dead early Friday morning.

Police say early indications are he died as a result of a medical event.

Then, after daybreak, the missing father was also found dead by first responders on another part of the rural property, possibly of natural causes.

Claresholm RCMP say a medical examiner will now have to determine the cause of death for both father and son, with their names being withheld.
