Junior Finance Minister Jayant Sinha was on Tuesday shifted from North Block in a surprise development. 53-year-old Mr Sinha will now be minister of state (MoS) for civil aviation.
Mr Sinha, who represents the Hazaribagh (Jharkhand) constituency in Lok Sabha, is the son of former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT-Delhi) and Harvard Business School alumnus Jayant Sinha has earlier worked as an investment fund manager and management consultant. He is a former McKinsey executive.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who was so far assisted by Mr Sinha, will now have two ministers to assist him, following Tuesday’s Cabinet reshuffle.
Santosh Gangwar, who was MoS (Independent charge) in textiles ministry, has been shifted as MoS for finance. Arjun Ram Meghwal, who was among the 19 new ministers of state sworn yesterday, will also assist Mr Jaitley.
In another major development, Mr Jaitley dropped his additional charge as information and broadcasting minister.
The changes in the Union Cabinet were announced late night yesterday.
