Telecom Minister Manoj Sinha said the government will continue to “work without any bias or discrimination” to provide the best service to consumers.Amid an ongoing spat between the existing telecommunication service providers and Reliance Jio, representatives of Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI), who have alleged that some consultation papers and decisions by regulator TRAI favoured new entrants, met Mr. Sinha and the Telecom Secretary J S Deepak to voice their concerns. “COAI delegation came to meet me and expressed some concerns. I told them that the Government does not work with bias… Our work is not to stop anyone or allow anyone… ” Mr. Sinha said after the meeting.
COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said that both the minister and the secretary highlighted that instead of escalating the matter in the public domain, the industry body should have directly approached the government. He added that the positive message from the government was that they are keen to settle the issue.
Mr. Mathews said the operators also sought clarification on “grey areas of network testing and how long the testing can last.”
COAI had earlier written to the DoT to ask the Mukesh Ambani-led firm to snap connections of all its 15 lakh users.
