They were rescued from Hotel Trinayni in FrezerganjA source in the agency said CID sleuths nabbed five persons involved in the racket, including the kingpin identified as Pintu Maity. Maity had been on the run for the past 20 days.
“We had information that Maity was running a trafficking racket, which has its links in Mumbai, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. A raid was conducted, under the supervision of senior officials of the department, at the hotel and five persons, including the two managers, were arrested,” said an official.
Pintu lured girls from different places with the prospect of jobs in the hotel industry. He would first take them to his hotel to “brainwash” them. These girls are from economically backward classes, the offical added.
He would then introduce them to his customers and later sell them in other cities, mostly in South India.
“He was running a small brothel in his hotel,” said a source.
While Maity used to bring girls and manage the hotel’s outdoor work, another manager Subhendu Das took care of the hotel’s other chores.
They had a trusted aid, Mohammed Mustaq Gazi. Maity has been associated with sex trade for about three years. He had created his own network in South and West India.
All the three, including two customers, were arrested under sections 366 (Kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage) , 370 (trafficking of persons), 370A (Exploitation of a trafficked person), 372 (Selling minor for purposes of prostitution), 120B (criminal conspiracy)of IPC and under Sections of 3/4/5/6/7/9 of The Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The girls were brought from Ara in Bihar and locked in a room. Sleuths are looking into the case in order to hunt for the others connected with the racket.
