A known Toronto child sex offender is facing new charges of exposing himself to a young girl. William Douglas Shorten, 50, is charged with criminal harassment, invitation to sexual touching, two counts of indecent exposure to a person under 16 years old, and four counts of fail to comply with probation.

The indecent is alleged to have occurred at 81 St. Mary St. on the afternoon of Aug. 9. Police allege that Shorten approached the young girl and exposed himself to her.

The girl left the area, and was followed allegedly by Shorten who exposed himself to her again.

The following day Shorten was arrested by police; he is now scheduled to appear in court Sept. 1. Police are concerned there may be other victims.

Shorten was convicted years ago of 12 offences involving children between 1998 and 2007, committed in public places, mainly downtown Toronto and North York bookstores and libraries. In 2011 it was reported that he left jail the previous year and had settled in Whitby.
