The Special Task Force (STF) along with Jalandhar Rural police and Kapurthala police today arrested seven gangsters and seized seven guns, intoxicants and Rs8 lakh from their possession.
The gang members are reportedly associated with Ludhiana-based gangster Goru Bacha.
Those arrested are Gurdeep Singh Bhinda of Ajtani village in Nurmahal, Jaswant Singh Jassa of Janiya village in Lohia, Sandeep Kumar Lala of Garha village in Lohian, Kuldeep Singh of Kapurthala, Mukal Kumar of Barha Pind in Goraya, Mandeep Kumar of Kapurthala and Rakesh Kumar Keshi of Mehatpur. They were reportedly wanted in several cases of robbery and attempt to murder.
Addressing the media, Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, AIG, STF, said the gangsters had been involved in the cases of drug trade and gang wars to uphold their supremacy and getting hired for property possession.
He said the gangsters were to gather at Narawali Nijhran village in two cars to execute some crime. The police managed to arrest them from the canal bridge.
The AIG said during preliminary interrogation, the gangsters revealed that they purchased the guns from a village in Karnal district of Haryana. The gang was headed by Gurdeep Singh Bhinda, who had links with the Goru Bacha gang.
