“Santa Banta” is set to hit the screens in Punjab as the Punjab and Haryana High Court today stayed the operation of a notification banning its release in theatres and multiplexes across the state.The movie released on April 22 throughout the country was not allowed to be screened in Punjab after the state issued a notification in the official gazette ordering a ban on its release. Subsequently, the filmmakers, Viacom Media Limited, filed a writ for setting aside the ban.Appearing for the filmmakers, senior advocate Randeep Rai and counsel Rubina Virmani argued that the movie was granted a U/A certificate by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC).A writ petition against the grant of certificate by the CBFC was also filed in the Delhi High Court. After detailed arguments, the Delhi High Court ordered the CBFC to reconsider the certificate. After certain modifications and alterations, the CBFC again granted the certificate.
