Kaur Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), traffic incharge, Bhawanigarh, was today arrested by a team of the Vigilance Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Baghel Singh of Bhattiwal Kalan village near Bhawanigarh.SP (Vigilance) Pritipal Singh said Baghel Singh had unintentionally made a phone call on a wrong number three weeks ago, but no one responded on that number. After two days, ASI Kaur Singh rang up Baghel and asked him to come to the police station, saying there was a complaint against him for doing a wrong phone call.The ASI got a remission deed signed from Baghel Singh and demanded a sum of Rs 5,000 for filing the complaint, despite having no complaint with him nor having the right to tackle such a case, being a traffic policeman.Baghel Singh brought the matter to the notice of the Sangrur Vigilance Bureau that laid a trap and caught Kaur Singh red-handed. A case has been registered against Kaur Singh under Sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
