Design and Display: The rumour indicates Samsung will launch Galaxy Note 7 with dual edge display, similar to the Galaxy S7 range. In 2014, Samsung had announced Galaxy Note 4 Edge which had a single edge display, but with the Note 5, we didn’t get any ‘edge display’ version. While some rumours point at Samsung launching a regular version of Note 7, the chances of that are low.
With the dual-edge curved display, Galaxy Note 7 won’t be very different from Galaxy S7 edge. Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful smartphones available right now, and with Note 7, the company could just add another one to the lineup. A press render revealed by @onleaks comparing Galaxy S7 edge and Note 7 edge shows S7 edge is more curvier than Note 7. The Note 7 will be square in shape, and will have a dimensions similar to Galaxy Note 5.Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is reportedly launching with 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display, and we can expect sharp and vibrant colours. Hardware: Samsung often refreshes its Note series with even better specifications than its flagship Galaxy S device. This year, however, the focus seems to be more on design and software. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is reportedly launching with 4GB RAM, and not 6GB like its competitors. The South-Korea firm is not jumping on the bandwagon of 6GB RAM smartphones.Like Galaxy S7 range, the Note 7 will launch with Qualcomm processor in US, and company’s very own Exynos range in other markets. It is unclear whether Note 7 will get the updated Snapdragon 821 chipset. Reports have indicated that other markets will get the updated Exynos 8890 CPU seen on Galaxy S7 and S7 edge.Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will come with IP68 certification making it water and dust resistant. The device will support latest LTE Cat 12 bands and it will come with 64GB onboard storage.Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will be the first Galaxy device to feature USB-C port, claim leaks. The device will be compatible with company’s new Gear VR headset.
Software: With Android Nougat release likely to launch next month, Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will run Android Marshmallow with company’s TouchWiz UI on top of it. The software is likely to be tweaked to support more S Pen features. Samsung last year added a S Pen feature that made note taking possible even when the device was locked.Samsung could explore more utility option for its S Pen with the new software. Also expect to hear an official word about Android 7.0 Nougat availability for Note 7, S7 and S7 edge.
S Pen: The single most differentiation for a Galaxy Note device has to be the S Pen feature. Samsung is the only Android OEM to make effective use of inking technology. This year, Samsung is reportedly improving S Pen with new features like gestures, translate and magnification. Samsung Galaxy Note 7’s S Pen will be able to translate words simply by moving the S Pen over a foreign language. The feature might well be powered by Google Translate features.With Note 7, S Pen users can zoom in on a particular content. Also there is likely to be a new app switcher option which will allow switching between apps with the S Pen.
Gear VR: Samsung will also launch a new Gear VR along with Note 7 today. The Gear VR will have a design similar to previous Gear VR, but offer 110 degree viewing angle and support USB-C connectivity.Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will launch today at 8.30 pm IST and we’ll be covering it live.
