A three-member board of doctors has also been constituted by the Civil Surgeon, Jalandhar to investigate into the “negligence” at PIMS.A case of fraud and negligence was registered against the management of Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Jalandhar, Thursday after Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and state BJP Chief Vijay Sampla visited the hospital to see his cousin undergoing treatment there and found no doctor on night duty.

An FIR has been registered against the hospital under sections 336, 420 of the IPC at police division seven on the complaint of Ram Lubhaya, the husband of Sampla’s cousin, in which he alleged that his wife was not administered “proper treatment” at PIMS.It is learnt that the minister went to PIMS last night to see his cousin, Surinder Kaur, who is suffering from chikungunya.
Sampla wanted to meet a doctor but found no one was available on night duty.
He then summoned PIMS staff as well as Civil Surgeon Dr Rajiv Bhalla, SDM Rajiv Verma and SP Amrik Puar who arrived in some time.
Principal of PIMS Dr Kulbir Kaur was also summoned. He reached after two hours.
Sampla said he would take up the matter with the Centre and get the hospital sealed if it continued to function in this manner.
Surinder Kaur is learnt to have also informed Sampla that ever since she was admitted here eight days ago, no doctor attended on her.
PIMS Principal Dr Kulbir Kaur neither picked her phone nor replied to the SMSes sent to her about this episode.
Sampla told the mediapersons: “It is a serious matter and PIMS staff should be accountable for their negligence.”
Civil Surgeon Dr Rajiv Bhalla said he has written to Medical Superintendent to form a board of three doctors, including medical officer, orthopedic and forensic expert, to look into the “negligence” at PIMS.
