The makers of FA are projecting the film as a big Eid release, considering Bakri Eid falls on Monday, Sept 12. With a four-day weekend attheir disposal, the date was too crucial to have been ignored. “Moreover, for Salman, Eid has always been special. A few weeks back, he delivered Sultan on Eid and it turned out to be an all-time blockbuster. Obviously it made sense for FA to release on Bakri Eid. Also, it is an out-and-out Khan Bros show, what with Arbaaz Khan featuring in the film as well. With Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the central protagonist — Salman has been fond of the actor since Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan — Khan is going all out to promote the film extensively,” a source adds.
For Katrina, a competitor in the form of Nawaz is as unlikely as it gets. The source continues, “Years ago, Nawazuddin was a supporting actor in New York, where Katrina was the central protagonist. They had a couple of crucial scenes together and it was also the first film that got Nawaz recognition, enabling him to bag more films. Seven years on, the talented actor is is now the lead protagonist of a film and Kat is forced to take this challenge in her stride.”
That said, one solace for both Baar Baar Dekho and Freaky Ali is that both films belong to a different space and setting.
“BBD seems like a frothy romcom and a musical entertainer with Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif’s great chemistry on show. On the other hand, Freaky Ali revolves around golf and is expected to be a unique story. Its scale and reach would be largely niche, unlike Baar Baar Dekho, which would be appealing to a much larger segment of the audience,” a trade guru comments.
Perhaps, that would be good enough for the clash to even out eventually, and it won’t really turn out to be a battle royale like it has been for Rustom and Mohenjo Daro, which is a fight between equals. In the case of Baar Baar Dekho and Freaky Ali, it might just be a peaceful outing for both Salman and Katrina.
