We informed you earlier that the Renault KWID 1.0-litre will be launching in India this festive season. Well now we have confirmation from our sources that the same will be debuting in our country this month itself. We first saw a glimpse of this new variant of Renault’s entry level hatchback at this year’s 2016 Delhi Auto Expo along with the KWID Climber and KWID Racer. Currently the KWID is available with a 0.8-litre, 3-cylinder engine and the new 1.0-litre engine is expected to be developed out of this very engine only. This new engine will produce 70PS of power as against the 54PS of the 0.8-litre unit. Besides the standard 5-speed manual gearbox, it is more likely that the KWID 1.0-litre will get an AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission) as well which is equipped with Renault’s Easy-R AMT techThe unique feature of this AMT is that it can be operated through a circular knob placed on the center console. It offers reverse, neutral and drive modes along with a creep mode that makes the easy to navigate to slow pace traffic in busy streets. As far as the visual modifications are concerned, the Renault KWID 1.0-litre is to remain exactly the same as the current model. Similarly, the cabin layout is expected to remain the same as before. Still, we just might see some minor tweaks in the car’s styling, just to differentiate it from its lesser powerful variant. When launched, the Renault KWID 1.0-litre will rival against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 and Hyundai EON 1.0-litre. Expect the prices to be in a range which is slightly higher than that of the standard KWID. The Renault KWID has turned out to be a huge success for the French automaker in India. The response that the company has received for this small car is has exceeded everyone’s expectations, including ours. The main reasons which can be attributed to this fact are KWID’s rather unique looks and the amount of creature comforts it offers despite being an entry level hatchback.
