York Regional police are thanking the public for their help in identifying two suspects after a fire was intentionally set inside a Longo’s grocery store at Weston and Rutherford roads in Vaughan on Sunday night, causing millions of dollars in damage.

Police say two suspects were captured on surveillance video setting a fire inside the store at around 7:30 p.m.

“When officers arrived, smoke could be seen coming from the inside of the store,” York Regional police said in a release.

The store was evacuated while crews contained the blaze. It remains closed.

Neighbouring businesses were also evacuated.

“After the fire was lit, the suspects left the store and walked south through the parking lot towards Rutherford Road,” police said.

Police said that as a result of media coverage and social media, the two suspects in the surveillance footage were identified as youths.

The investigation is ongoing.
