While addressing a function to mark the 300th martyrdom anniversary of Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at Fatehgarh Sahib, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on 26 June said BJP-led NDA government would deliver justice to all the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. He added that the Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up to look into the cases of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, after reviewing 286 cases has recommended 22 cases for reinvestigation. The 1984-riots took lives of about 3,325 people, while Delhi alone accounted for 2,733 deaths. Due to lack of evidence, the Delhi Police had closed 241 cases. While Justice Nanavati Commission had recommended reopening of only four of them, BJP wanted re-investigation in all the cases. Along with Rajnath Singh others to attend the ceremony were Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, MPs Prem Singh Chandumajra and Balwinder Singh Bhunder.
