As anticipated, the Rajinikanth-starrer Kabali has taken off to a spectacular start. The film, which also stars Radhika Apte and has been directed by Pa Ranjith, has drawn big crowds even in the non-Tamil markets. The film’s producer KS Thanu said that though the official collection figure was still to arrive but the film has easily collected Rs 100 crore on its opening day. “It is god’s blessing that the film is doing so well. The collection is amazing not only in India but all over the world. Language does not seem to be a barrier as everyone is coming to see the film. “It has created history and an all time record all over the world. The collection figure is awaited but I am assuming it has easily made Rs 100 crore on the first day,” said Thanu. However trade analyst Trinath said that the film could’ve easily raked in over Rs 50 crore on release day worldwide. Kabali has already been declared number one in Malaysia. The film has become the highest-grossing Rajinikanth film in the United States in one day and has beaten the 2010 hit, Enthiran. ATMUS Entertainment, the distributors of Tamil movies in the United States, tweeting about how Kabali, fared on day one: #Kabali $461K hourly gross makes it biggest Rajini film in USA till date & enters profit zone already-its only 24 hours since shows started! From premiere shows alone, the film has collected $2 million from the US and Canada markets, according to distribution company CineGalaxy Inc. Taran Adarsh had earlier tweeted about the film’s preview shows in the US. The film, which was heavily promoted tells the story of an ageing don who takes up the cause of Tamils in Malaysia. The fan frenzy has been sky high though most reviewers have panned the film, calling it neither a Rajinikanth film, nor a Pa Ranjith film.
