A fiery multi-vehicle crash on the QEW left commuters heavily backed up during the afternoon rush hour on Thursday.

The crash involved two transport trucks and a pickup truck which all burst into flames, after the three collided and smashed into the guardrail near Fruitland Rd. in Stoney Creek.

One driver sustained minor injuries, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said.

All lanes in both directions were closed for over an hour and the “huge fiery mess” caused significant damage, Schmidt said. One of the trucks was “completely melted.”

Traffic reconstruction may be called on scene depending on the damage on the highway, Schmidt explained.

All ramps and lanes in the area have since re-opened, the OPP said.
