Family of the two victims of stubble burning finally agreed to bury the bodies after the Muktsar administration acceded to their demands to increase the compensation amount and provide job to a minor kin.
Sohan Singh (42) and his son Gurpreet Singh (18) had succumbed to burn injuries they sustained in a stubble burning incident on May 2.
The family has now been promised that they will get Rs 16 lakh as compensation and Sohan’s 16-year-old son will be employed in Red Cross Bhawan.
The bodies will be cremated Saturday after the post-mortem examination.
Another farm labourer, Iqbal Singh, who, too, was injured in the stubble burning incident, is being provided free medical treatment at Faridkot and Rs 50,000 compensation will be given to him as well.
DC, Muktsar, Sumit Jarangal confirmed the same.
He added: Agriculture officers, apart from administrative officials, have been told to keep a check on stubble burning, though a large part of the harvested land has already been burnt.” The stubble was set afire by a farmer, Iqbal Singh, who is under arrest. He has been booked under bailable Section and 304A and the SC/ST Act.
