The Congress will soon launch ‘Samaj Jodo Campaign’ in the state. The aim of the programme would be to reach out to the Dalit community at the grassroot level.

“The 34 reserved constituencies would be covered first. The party will then go ahead with other constituencies also,” said Sufi singer Hans Raj Hans who had recently joined Congress. He was speaking in a meeting with the Dalit community at Kartarur reserved assembly constituency on Sunday.

“The programme will attempt to touch upon all those whose voices had been unheard since the last ten years, who have been facing humiliation at the hands of the present SAD-BJP regime in the state,” he said. “The Dalit Samaj should fight against the communal forces in the state in the coming Vidhan Sabha elections.”

“Congress has always given due representation to the Dalits. It made them more powerful and gave them equal opportunity. Congress is the only secular party where the Dalit Samaj feel safe and see their bright future also,” said Hans.

This came about despite Hans recently having vented out against the Congress for giving representation only to the Ravidassia community. He had protested that his community, Valmikis, were under-represented in the party.
