Palwinder Kaur, Vaishali, Harpreet Singh and Cheenu Bala (all from commerce stream) from the Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students here have been ranked 12, 16, 17 and 20 in the merit list by scoring 97.56 per cent, 96.67 per cent, 94.44 per cent and 95.78 per cent marks, respectively. These students are from rural backgrounds and the government is providing them free education.
Meanwhile, Principal of Teja Singh Sutantar School, Gurbachan Singh Grewal, said it was a proud moment for both city and school as students had performed exceptionally well in Class XII. He said 50 students from the school had placed themselves in the merit list of PSEB, which was a great achievement.
“We do not prefer students going for tuitions as it adds extra financial burden on parents. Instead, we ask them to come for extra classes, provided by the school teachers only,” Grewal said.
Mohan Lal Kalia, Principal, RS Model School, Shastri Nagar, said it was a great feeling that the state topper was from their school.
“Our 26 students have been able to make it to the merit list. Students, who are from weak financial background, are supported by the school management. For funds, these meritorious students must not suffer. The school has always scored well in Board exams for all these years,” said an elated Principal.
As many as 10 students from BCM School, Focal Point, were also able to place themselves in the overall merit list of Punjab.
