Police have arrested a 26-year-old man who attempted to elude them by racing away at high speeds early Sunday morning. Police observed a GMC Terrain being operated in an unsafe manner in the area of Osborne Street and Granite Way on Sunday at about 1:10 a.m. Police then attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver sped away, travelling northbound on to Edmonton Street from Broadway Avenue. The suspect’s vehicle was travelling at about 110 km/h, police said.
The Air1 helicopter then became involved in the chase, maintaining visual contact while collaborating with units on the ground.
The suspect eventually parked the vehicle on the first 100 block of Clonard Avenue and attempted to flee on foot. Moments later, he was apprehended by police.
The suspect faces numerous charges, including: driving while ability impaired; driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in the blood; flight while pursued by a peace officer; dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; resisting a peace officer; possession of a scheduled substance — cocaine; and driving without a licence or with an invalid licence.
