A man has been arrested in connection to several instances of food contamination in the South Lake Tahoe area. Harry Dally, 43, was arrested Tuesday after detectives were able to identify him as the suspect caught on surveillance footage at a South Lake Tahoe Raley’s allegedly putting an unknown substance into food at the Hot Wok Chinese Food restaurant inside the store.
A similar crime was reported at the Baja Fresh in the same South Lake Tahoe shopping center. Based on the suspect’s methods and the similar contaminant used in the food sources, detectives believe the crimes are connected. The crimes occurred over about two weeks from Nov. 8 to Nov. 19.
Tuesday, detectives served a warrant at Dally’s home in South Lake Tahoe. Detectives found “items of interest” related to the investigation. And police think they now know what the contaminating substance might be.
Dally has been arrested and booked into the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. He is charged with a single felony count of intentionally dispensing a contaminating substance capable of causing death or injury on food items for human consumption as this offense relates to the Hot Wok inside of Raley’s.
While police believe Dally may be connected to the crimes at Baja Fresh, police are still waiting to receive surveillance video from Baja Fresh. Police no longer believe the general public is at risk.
