Pipe bomb removed as North Belfast alert ends

Army bomb experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a "viable pipe bomb device" found in the North Queen Street area of Belfast. The roads have been re-opened and the item has been removed for further forensic examination. Detective Inspector Mary White said the incident had caused "massive inconvenience,disruption and upset" for the local community, thanking the members of the public for their patience and cooperation during the operation. During the alert, two women, aged 27 and 38, were arrested on suspicion of breaching the security corden and are being questioned by police about this offence. Det Insp White has appealed for anyone with relevant information to contact Musgrave Police Station on 101, quoting reference number 247 of 09/08/16.
