Police have released a dark, grainy photograph along with the description of a man wanted in an early Tuesday homicide on Detroit’s east side. The unknown man fatally shot a 21-year-old male around 1:30 a.m. on the 3400 block of Van Dyke, south of Gratiot, police said in a statement. The two were seen speaking at a block party before the shooting, standing in front of the victim’s 2016 Dodge Charger.
“During that conversation the victim was seen grabbing the arm of the suspect, at which time the suspect produced a gun and fired one shot striking the victim,” police said. “The suspect then fled the location in an unknown direction.”
The suspect is visible in the background of a photograph released by police, with a red arrow added to identify him among at least one car’s rear lights and several other individuals.
He is described by police as a black man in his 20s with short black hair and a light complexion. He is around 5 feet 5 inches tall and 150 pounds, clean shaven and was wearing a white T-shirt and white pants. He was armed with a handgun, police said.
