Residents of Patiala backed by Congress MLA (rural) Brahm Mohindra today met Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal “requesting him to direct the officials involved in the construction of the National Highway-64 passing through Urban Estate, Patiala, to ensure that the elevated road is constructed in such a manner so that it does not create a bottleneck and result in accidents”.“At the conceptual stage of the above project from Zirakpur to Patiala, the necessity of an elevated road from Punjabi University to southern bypass Patiala had lost sight of engineers and their consultants. Such a highway has to be elevated while passing through densely populated Urban Estate area,” said area residents in a written communiqué to the CM.“A flyover is being constructed at Bahadugarh with a vehicle underpass in front of Punjabi University, while no vehicle underpass has been proposed on this stretch for Urban Estate with over 2.5 lakh population,” the residents told the CM.Brahm Mohindra said the CM deputed a senior Public Works Department engineer to take up the matter with the National Highway Authority of India and also with the Central government officials. “The issue is important as in case the highway flyover is constructed as per plan, it will result in accidents and loss of precious lives,” he said.
