A man is dead after his motorcycle collided with the side of a car at an intersection in southeast Calgary this morning. The collision happened at about 6:15 a.m. at 52nd Street and Dufferin Place S.E.

The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, hit the passenger side of a car, EMS spokesman Stuart Brideaux said in a release.

“The initial paramedic crew immediately requested a second ambulance to the scene for additional resources,” he said.

But crews were unable to revive the man and he was declared dead at the scene, Brideaux said.

Police shut down several routes in the area, including northbound 52nd Street at 114th Avenue S.E. and the southbound lanes at 90th Avenue.

Eastbound traffic on 106th Avenue is also closed on the approach to 52nd Street, police tweeted.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
