Odisha CID special DG B K Sharma said his team nabbed Dr Motilal Gouda, who had been on the run since last month, from Visakhapatnam, where he has a house. Sharma said Gouda will be produced before a court here on Monday where the CID would seek his remand for interrogation.Gouda, who was working as Assistant Director (Medical) in the Directorate of Factories and Boilers, had cheated Nalco of Rs 1 crore by issuing a fake gazette notification in May that asked them to send their employees to five pathology laboratories in Odisha for health checkups. Officials in the Directorate of Factories and Boilers said the department can issue a general advisory but has no authority to specify labs where PSU employees can be checked.
“A case was registered with CID on June 6 in connection with forgery, cheating, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence. Motilal Gouda, along with his accomplices, had conspired to falsify the gazette notification causing financial loss to the government,” said the CID special DG.
Following Gouda’s fake gazette notification, Nalco signed an agreement with the pathology labs. While Nalco was planning to sign another agreement of Rs 1.6 crore with them, Rourkela Steel Plant too was all set to sign a similar agreement.
