THE occupant of a car who was thrown clear in a single car roll over South of Coober Pedy had died at the scene. Emergency services received calls of the car rollover just after 4.30pm on Saturday near Ingomar rest stop and responded to find one occupant of the car thrown clear during the roll over.

A second occupant was trapped inside the car for a period of time before being freed and receiving medical treatment.

Additional CFS and SES units were called to the scene to clear a landing strip for a Royal Flying Doctors aircraft to land and take the injured occupant to hospital.

Major crash investigators are also flying to scene while the Stuart Highway will be closed to south bound traffic at Coober Pedy and north bound traffic at Glendambo.

The death marks the second fatality on Saturday after an elderly man succumbed to injuries sustained when the mobility scooter he was driving was hit by a car earlier this month.

Just before 3.30pm on Monday October 3, the 71-year-old was riding a mobility scooter and crossed the Salisbury Highway at the intersection with Shepherdson Road.

He was hit by a car travelling South-West on Salisbury Highway and taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment.

He passed away from his injuries on Friday.

Major Crash Investigators are examining the circumstances of the crash and are appealing for witnesses to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
