The wheat procurement season has concluded but a number of market committees in the state are unable to pay salaries to their employees for the last few months as these are facing paucity of funds. Avtar Singh, President, Punjab Market Committees Employees’ Union, said, “The state government is unable to pay salaries to the employees of a number of market committees.” Notably, the market committees charge two per cent fee on the total sale of agricultural produce in the mandis. However, the procurement agencies are yet to pay the fee to the market committees, said Avtar. — TNS.
