He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the Xth Biennial National Conference of the Physics Academy of the North East in Shillong.Minister of State, Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said in Shillong on Thursday that in India, there is nothing called “mainstream” or “sidestream” and that whichever culture one practised or belonged to was one’s mainstream. “I do not believe in some people saying that the Northeast should merge with mainstream India. Whichever culture I practise or belong to is my mainstream; there is nothing called mainstream or sidestream,” Rijiju said. He was speaking as chief guest at the inaugural function of the Xth Biennial National Conference of the Physics Academy of the North East in Shillong, a PIB press release said. Rijiju also said that there was nothing such as “more Indian” or “less Indian”. “We are all part of this country and we should respect our country,” the PIB release quoted him as saying.
