A new rumor has popped up claiming that the Finnish phone maker Nokia will be releasing two new smartphones running Android.Sources have indicated that Nokia is currently in the prototyping phase for its two upcoming Android smartphones, as reported by NokiaPowerUser. The two Android smartphones could possibly be unveiled as early as the fourth quarter of this year. What’s most intriguing is that both handsets will be running Android 7.0 Nougat, the next iteration of Google’s mobile OS, straight from the box.Accompanying Android Nougat is said to be an improved version of Nokia’s Z Launcher UI, a user interface designed by Nokia for Android smartphones. As for specifications, the rumors claim that one of the handsets will have a 5.5-inch screen, while the other will be slightly smaller with a 5.2-inch screen.Though still unconfirmed, both are expected to come with OLED displays with a quad-HD (2,560 x 1440) screen resolution. It’s also been pointed out that the handsets could come with a smaller 2K resolution (2,048 x 1,080).Both handsets will be marketed as high-end or premium devices which will come with metallic designs and “the famous Nokia feel.” The smartphones are also believed to be water- and dust-resistant with IP68 certification, which means the handsets won’t be damaged if immersed under three feet of water for up to 30 minutes. The IP68 certification is the same rating for Samsung’s Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge. One of the handsets is also expected to come with a 22-megapixel camera. This is believed to be the 5.5-inch handset, as speculated by GizmoChina. There’s no word yet on what camera the 5.2-inch handset will come with.Lastly, both Nokia Android smartphones will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset and may possibly come with fingerprint sensors.Although the rumors are pointing toward a late 2016 unveiling for Nokia’s Android Nougat smartphones, it could be pushed back for a Q1 2017 release date.
