Uttar Pradesh Police have detained 15 people for the alleged gangrape of a woman and her teenage daughter near Bulandshahr early on Saturday morning.“We have important clues,” Laxmi Singh, inspector general of police of the Meerut Range, said.Suspected robbers waylaid the Noida-based woman and her daughter on the Ghaziabad-Aligarh highway, dragged them out of their car, and allegedly gangraped them at around 1.30am on Saturday. The family was on its way to Shajahanpur to attend a function. When the car was passing through Dostpur village, the criminals threw a piece of metal at the vehicle, forcing the driver to stop, police said. While the driver got out to examine the damage, the criminals, who were hiding on the roadside, overpowered him and forced him to drive the car off the road and into the fields. The gang then allegedly tied up the male members and took away the woman and her daughter and raped them for over two hours. The criminals then fled after snatching the family’s cash and other valuables. The victims eventually managed to reach the Dehat Kotwali police station later in the morning. The police allegedly made no effort to visit the spot and look for the criminals.Vaibhav Krishan, SSP of Bulandshahar, suspended Kotwali Dehat station officer Ram Sain Singh for dereliction of duty. The DIG, Meerut Range, later visited the scene of crime.Police suspect the involvement of Bawaria (gypsy) gang in the crime.“The modus operandi of criminals points towards tribal Bawari gangs though we have been working on all possible angles to crack the case,” SSP Krishnan said over phone from Bulandshahar. He said Bawaria gangs adopt such techniques to stop moving vehicles on roads. There was a similar incident in village Rabupura of the district last year and later Bawaria gang was found involved in it.District police has also sought the assistance of Special Task Force (STF) to nab the criminals.
