Fearing arrest over death, male members of the tribal Bhatra community have deserted the village.Two days after a tribal and Dalit were killed and another tribal man injured in Baunsabeda village of Umerkote over ploughing of a land meant for a reserve forest, uneasy calm prevailed in the village.
On Saturday, Phagunu Bhatra, a tribal, and Balaram Das, a Dalit, were killed in Baunsbeda, under Benra gram panchayat, following altercation over ploughing of a proposed reserve forest area. Balaram also reportedly stabbed Gurubaru Bhatra, who is reported to be critical.
Three platoons of policemen have been deployed in the area. Fearing arrest over Balaram’s death, male members of the tribal Bhatra community have deserted the village.
